Notes |
- I have copies of two news articles that are about Bladen and his lost grave. The first (1930) bemoans the fate of the grave after his family moved to Michigan and the second (1942) celebrates the placing of a memorial stone by the DAR.

- (Research):We don't have a specific birthdate for either of these folks but we have some military records that say that Bladen was born about 1759. The earliest that I can image him marrying Catherine would be at age 15 - 1774.
Even if Catherine was 15 when Elizabeth was born, the latest she would be having babies is at age 55 - 1828 (coincidentally the year he supposedly died).
This gives us a year range of 1774-1828 for the births of all these children.
The 1850 Census with Amos and Elizabeth Smith infers that she was born about 1784-1785, just after the assumed marriage date of her parents. If she is indeed the eldest child, and if Catherine is like most of the women in my database, some likely years of birth would be 1785, 1787, 1789, 1792, 1794, 1796, 1799, 1801, 1803, 1806, 1808, 1810, 1813, 1815, 1818. That gives us 15 dates to consider and is 10 years after the latest date I have found in credible work. If she only had 11 babies born, the usual spread is 20-24 years.
