George A. is our ancestor. He was a lawyer in Sumner. He either married or did not marry Margaret Caruthers, but can be found living with her and their three sons on Sumner Co. censuses. We first heard from Thomas B.'s descendants that George adopted the three boys of Margaret Caruthers, whose names were John A. aged about 22, Thomas about 19, and Richard H. L, abt 14. Thomas is our ancestor. We later found a court record dated 1857 in the Archives in Sumner Co. (where you can also see Patrick Hamilton Baskervill's book), stating that the three boys were George's illegitimate children by Peggy Caruthers and he wanted to legitimize them. We have no idea what the problem was with marrying Margaret, but possibly one or the other was married to someone else. That is all we can figure. [Kay Baganoff] | BASKERVILLE, George A (I9666)

George had a different kind of life. He left home at about 14 and worked in various places around the Dallas area. While he was raising his family, he worked at an auto body shop, repairing vehicles. His big love was working as a body guard/gopher for the various local wrestling stars. He also cleaned and repaired HUD homes between tenants. He loved his dogs and his last ones were Fred and Patches, miniature dachshunds. Above all, he loved his daughters and would do anything for them. Many of our talks were about his wishes for his girls. | ARMSTRONG, George A Jr (I109)

gina,
william henry mellen was the son of grenville mellen, who was in turn a son of william pepperrell mellen, who came south from dover, nh as don correctly states. grenville, born mar 6 1843, married very young (he was very tall for his age), had two children, volunteered in the confederate army, and was killed at the battle of seven pines in 1862. grenville had two sons, so william henry had a brother named grenville. i believe this brother grenville is the grenville who lived on the mississippi gulf coast.
