Either Robert's name was changed to Elias or the wrong age was recorded for Elias in 1880. Since Elias isn't on the 1870 census, it's possible that he was born in 1870 instead of 1868. Alternatively, we know from the 1900 census that Martha lost three children. | WYATT, Washington Robert (I22127)

Elaine L. Allen passed away December 3, 2011.
Honoring Elaine's request, a private family memorial will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Cremation Society of Idaho.
Elaine was born August 27, 1919 in Weiser, Idaho, the daughter of Ruby and Walter Talboy.
She is survived by her sons, Albert D. Allen (Janet), Phil Allen (Laurie); daughter, Janette Allen; five grandchildren, Kip, Joe, Shelle, JB and Annell; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and our special Aunt Louise Talboy, from California. Also, she was close to all her nieces and nephews.
Elaine grew up on a farm in Weiser with her twin sister, Eileen Schrier; sister, Marjorie Koch; and brothers, Dean and Glen (Ervin) Talboy, who have preceded her in death. Our father, Albert L. Allen, passed away at a young age in 1949.
In 1953, Elaine married Frosty Alzola. She and her family spent the summers on the Alzola Bro's cattle ranch cooking and helping with ranch duties. During the school months, the family returned to Boise and lived with the Schrier family. She and Frosty were divorced in 1963, but remained close friends until his passing in 2006.
Elaine loved the outdoors and animals, and had many dogs through the years that she cherished. Our mother worked very hard throughout her life. She loved to cook for everyone and always made sure everyone had enough to eat. From 1990 through 1998, she worked every Saturday at the Stagecoach Inn preparing "grandma's" famous biscuits and gravy.
She and her twin sister, Eileen, began carving carousel horses in their 60's. They became quite accomplished at the art and carved many through a 10 year period. It was only natural as they had grown up loving horses and rode in many horse shows.
Special thanks to Mary (Schrier) Thomas (niece), for all her help and support. Also, Kevin Arrien's friendship and support with financial and property maintenance for Elaine. The family would like to thank Yvonne Gray and her family for their wonderful care during mother's last months with us.
In lieu of flowers and contributions, we ask that you take your mother to lunch or dinner and let her know she is loved. | TALBOY, Elaine L (I21936)

Elijah's property, a perfect square, encompassed most of what is now Prairie Creek Park (the southern part up to about the campground and including part of the marina) and the northeast portion of the community of Prairie Creek. The northwest corner was along Summers Road just north of Grace Lane and the southern end of South Old Dutch Road points toward the southeast corner behind the lots in the cul de sac - this corner is still defined by present-day properties. The northwest corner is not as clearly defined now but included all the properties on the north side of Grace Lane. I believe Summers Road has claimed the tip of the corner. Remember that this lake wasn't present during Elijah's lifetime; the dam was constructed in 1960-1966. There are also patents for Jackson, Solomon (the younger?) and William (not Warfield?) in this township. Jackson's land (1889) includes Elijah's original homestead and the quarter just east of it (now mostly under water). Solomon's patent (1894) is the same as Elijah's original homestead. William's place (1875) was west of Bentonville along the western edge of the airport.
Elijah operated a cable ferry at the War Eagle Mill in Benton Co, Arkansas. He homesteaded 160 acres that is now partially covered by a man made lake just east of Rogers, AR.
Per the Rogers Democrat of August 14, 1907, Elijah died at 6 am on a Saturday.
Elijah is buried in the Grimes family cemetary with his father, Solomon, in Benton Co.
Elijah was married 4 times. He homesteaded 180 acres of land at Rogers, AR, where he raised four families. After his death, his last wife stayed on with her daughter and raised vegetables for sale. After Nancy died, the daughter married Elbert Williams. Their son Wateman Williams built a fine brick home and he and his wife lived there. A Betty Armstrong lived on the property at the time of this report. Elijah, his last 3 wives and children - Homer [Horace?] and Washie - are buried in the Grimes Cemetery near Rogers, AR. Source-war records, family Bibles, court records, and descendents. (Mildred Armstrong Gilman.)
The Rumby/Rumley Houston listed on the 1870 census is NOT son. He's listed on the 1880 with Anna and William Gibson as Houston Rumley age 17. Elijah's cousin, Martha Tuck, was married to a Robert Rumley in 1866. Robert had a brother named Houston so perhaps this is a connection to the boy. | ARMSTRONG, Elijah William (I8)

Elisha Winn House
County: Gwinnett
City: Dacula
Type: Home
The story of Elisha Winn and the home he built near Hog Mountain is really the story of early Gwinnett County, for it was Winn who was not only one of the first settlers in this area, he was a founding father of the county. His home, on Dacula Road, served as the county's first courthouse and it was Winn who supplied the land to create the county seat, Lawrenceville (History of Lawrenceville, Georgia).
When Winn settled near Hog Mountain in 1805 it was on the western edge of the Georgia frontier. Settlers were protected from the Cherokee by Fort Daniel at the top of the mountain. Built along the Dacula Highway (at this time Hurricane Shoals was the name of the road that ran past the house) in 1812 the Winn house is a beautiful sight, particularly at sunset, when the front of the house is lit by the setting sun.
Gwinnett County was formed (December 15, 1818) from portions of Hall and Jackson County and Elisha Winn was appointed judge in the Inferior Court. The courthouse was his barn and the jail was in his backyard. The first Gwinnett County election was held in the house. Winn's homestead continued to serve the county for 2 years when the first temporary Gwinnett County courthouse was completed in 1820. Elisha Winn died in 1842.
Among those related to Winn by blood or marriage are: William Maltbie, an early Gwinnett County businessman; C. H. Brand, a lawyer who served as president of Brand Banking and went on to national fame as a key member of the U. S. House of Representatives; and Thomas Elisha Winn, a lawyer who served a term as U. S. Representative.
For more than 100 years the Winn house was occupied and cared for. After the Second World War it fell into disrepair. Thanks to the Gwinnett Historical Society the home has been completely renovated to the way it looked in 1870.
Location: Dacula Road, north of downtown Dacula
Directions: Take Highway 316 east to Old Winder Road. Turn left. In downtown Dacula, turn left on Dacula Road. The house is just outside of town on the right.
