Funeral Services For John Mixon Held At Gansville
Prominent Gansville Citizen Dies Suddenly Last Thursday
John Mixon, prominent citizen of Gansville, died suddenly at his home Thursday night of last week. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Gansville church conducted by the Rev. J. W. Buckner of Jonesboro and the Rev. W. T. Strain of Simsboro. Masonic services concluded the rites. Interment was in the Gansville church cemetery.
Mr. Mixon was born March 11, 1883 near Gansville, where he lived his lifetime. In 1906 he was married to Miss Ella Puckett and one daughter was born to them, however, at different times he has opened his home to five orphaned children to whom he gave a father's devotion. He was a member of the Baptist church at Gansville and also the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ella Puckett Mixon, one daughter, Mrs. Maurice Gates, two granddaughters, Ella Sue and Ada Lynn Gates, three brothers, A. L. Mixon of Dodson, O. J. Mixon of Winnfield, and C. R. Mixon of Pineville.
Pallbearers, nephews of the deceased, were Joe Mixon of Homer, Dan Mixon of Dodson, Claud Mixon and Elton Mixon of Winnfield, and Virgil and Arthur Taylor of Gansville. | PUCKETT, Thomas Barton (I4750)

(Research):We don't have a specific birthdate for either of these folks but we have some military records that say that Bladen was born about 1759. The earliest that I can image him marrying Catherine would be at age 15 - 1774.
Even if Catherine was 15 when Elizabeth was born, the latest she would be having babies is at age 55 - 1828 (coincidentally the year he supposedly died).
This gives us a year range of 1774-1828 for the births of all these children.
The 1850 Census with Amos and Elizabeth Smith infers that she was born about 1784-1785, just after the assumed marriage date of her parents. If she is indeed the eldest child, and if Catherine is like most of the women in my database, some likely years of birth would be 1785, 1787, 1789, 1792, 1794, 1796, 1799, 1801, 1803, 1806, 1808, 1810, 1813, 1815, 1818. That gives us 15 dates to consider and is 10 years after the latest date I have found in credible work. If she only had 11 babies born, the usual spread is 20-24 years. | ASHBY, Bladen (I5050)

I am interested because not only do I have Puckett family roaming around that area, I have lost a bunch of my "Brown"s there too. The Puckett and Brown connection came to Collin/Dallas/Tarrant/Rockwall County areas just as fast they could gather their belongings and move after the civil war. The Pucketts came from Union Parish, Louisiana and the Browns from somewhere maybe Tennessee. Please contact me at jlddn@hal-pc.org | PUCKETT, John Turner (I1694)
